We always consider ventilation and favour the hidden over- fascia vents- which run horizontally across your roofline under your roof tiles/slates and on top of the fascia board. These give superior ventilation as far as your roofline is concerned.
This way you get a clean finish for your soffits- without vents spoiling the look. (Soffit vents have a tendency to clog up with dirt/dust and insects and do not generally provide as much ventilation).
